Dudley's Pizza & Tavern

Located next to Aksarben Cinema in Aksarben Village, locally owned and operated Dudley’s Pizza & Tavern (2110 S 67th Street, Omaha) offers great pizza and friendly service. Happy Hour is Monday - Friday 3:00pm to 6:00 pm and Reverse HH is 9:00pm to close everyday. Specials include $1 off all draws and bottles, $3.50 well drinks, $5 8-inch one topping pizzas, half off select appetizers like fried pickles and sweet potato fries, and $3.50 wine by the glass. Daily specials include a Bloody Mary bar Sundays, Tuesday Pint Night and Tavern Trivia and Whiskey Wednesday.

The interior of Dudley’s is pretty straight forward. Sports bar feel in the bar area with tons of big screen tvs and pool tables; quieter in the dining room area. Nice selection at the bar and a patio for you to enjoy your pizza while people watching Aksarben Village goers.

I’ll let you in on a secret. I am a glutton for punishment. I know I don’t like IPAs but I keep trying to find one to change my mind. Deschutes’ Fresh Squeezed IPA ($4.85 for a 16 oz -- 6.4% ABV) did not do the trick. It was more citrusy than hoppy to my bartenders credit, but I just couldn’t do it. Thankfully she let me get another beer and didn’t charge me for the approximately six sips I took.

Boulevard’s Tank 7 Farmhouse Ale was a bit more my speed ($5.15 for a 12 oz -- 8.5% ABV). I enjoyed the citrusy grapefruit notes despite not likely actual grapefruits and the dry finish complemented the food I ordered.

I love Dudley’s pizza so I ordered an 8 inch sausage and black olive pizza ($5.75 -- additional toppings are 75 cents each). Generally I hate pizza crust but Dudley’s apparently has the magic formula that makes me eat it. Try it with the honey they leave on the table -- definitely a treat. Sometimes there’s too much cornmeal dusted on top but nothing a quick brush or shake wouldn’t fix. In the running for best personal pizzas in Omaha.

I also ordered the bacon-cheddar-loaded sticks ($4: “breadsticks” stuffed with hickory-smoked bacon, Dudley’s freshly grated cheese blend, topped with green onions and sharp Wisconsin cheddar. Served with ranch and classic red sauce). A cross between a loaf of bread and breadsticks, I expected a bit more bacon and cheese. Same dough they use for their pizzas but without the cheese and sauce, it was a bit lacking for me.

I give Dudley’s 2.5 smiles. Love their pizza but after trying two or three other menu items the pizza may be the only thing that brings me back. Would like a bigger beer selection, but thoroughly enjoy the environment and location.

Granite City Happy Hour Review

Granite City Food and Brewery located 1001 N 102nd St, right by Westroads Mall Omaha. Granite City offers Happy Hour EVERY DAY PEOPLE! Yes everyday twice a day baby! Monday-Friday 3pm-6pm, Saturday-Sunday from Noon-5pm, and every night 9pm to close.  Happy Hour consists of $4, $6, and $8 small plates. $5 Cocktails, Martinis, Wines, Sprits, and Skinnies for the calories watcher out there.

Before my Happy Hour visit, I visited Granite City before for their Brunch. Granite's Brunch is noteworthy. I was impressed how Granite City offers their Happy Hour twice a day, giving patrons options and convenience which I really love.  My beautiful Mother joined for this review, and first thing she ordered was the Red Sangria Sunset. I have to say the Sunset was the best I tasted and worth $5 and more. Just the right about of wine and not too much fruit.

When ever there is a quesadilla on the menu I order! I just became a fan of the two tortillas smashed together creation. I liked how they drizzled the sour cream on top. I always over dose on the cream. I do wish the chicken was more flavorful and had some sort of kick. Overall it was okay for $6, but not very noteworthy.

Potatoes and Sour Cream just go together like the cream in a Twinkie. Okay maybe that wasn't the right metaphor but you get it. This dish was the small version of the Idaho Nachos with shredded cheese, chives, tomatoes, and huge dollop of Daisy...hahahaha.  I loved how the potatoes were in waffle fry form (my favorite). You can definitely get full of this one plate. Ask your server for the Granite Dip....then thank me later.

Next we tried the Chicken Tenders basket with French fries. Not more than your average chicken tenders that you can get at your local fast food joint.

Overall I give Granite City 4 Smiles. I love the options of food and drinks, and I'm really happy about the convenience of the times that are offered. Happy Hours everyday is great, but when you offer it twice a day everyday its a plus.

Block 16 Happy Hour Review

Located on 16th and Farnam right next to Douglas County Courthouse (1611 Farnam St). Happy Hour is Thursday to Saturday from 3pm to 6pm. Happy Hour offers $2 Select Beers, $5 Wines and $5 Select Appetizers. Farm to Table is Block 16's style.Offering fresh and local street food to the table.

Vintage dressers and chalk board menus, posted on the wall brings its charm. Block 16 offers casual dining and early 2000 hits like Jay-Z "Izzo"and OutKast. Dining area is quite small but Block 16 uses every space for enough seating.

For starters I tried Zip Lines Brewing Company (Lincoln, NE) Oatmeal Porter ($2) . Organic rolled oats with dark chocolate and coffee undertones. I'm not a beer kind of girl, it reminded me of a Mocha but beer. First appetizer I tried was the Smoked Brisket Quesadilla (smoked brisket, with corn relish). Unfortunately I forgot to take a picture of this divine creation. Please forgive me!!! Thin sliced brisket sandwiched between two different cheeses (american and provolone) drizzled with I believe a chipotle sauce, and topped with corn relish. To be honest I was expecting more meat, but the portion was reasonable. I was able to taste the smokiness from the brisket. Who would of thought that BBQ and Mexican would go together.

Next was the Lavosh (flatbread with heirloom tomato, white anchovy, onion, herbs, and Grena Podona). When it comes to anchovies I'm not a rookie. What I learned from my visit is that not all anchovies are the same. I was expecting thin, smoked, and salty filet of anchovies. What I got was thick and cold filet. It wasn't much flavor overall. This dish tasted plain jane. I was expecting a lot more. I caught myself taking the toppings off and just eating the flatbread alone.

Even though I had a good time, enjoyed my beer and quesdialla. I give Block 16's Happy Hour 1 smiles. Their Happy Hour isn't much to brag about it. Eventually I will go back and try their main menu items. Block 16 are host of many awards and accolades and I can't wait to try the Duck Duck Goose Fries.

M's Pup Happy Hour Review

Sociable, Charm, and Delectable Food is M’s Pub motto.   Located in the heart of the Old Market, M’s Pub defiantly has the Charm and delectable food. As good as the food and décor of M’s Pub is, the customer service needed work.  One thing I don’t tolerate is poor customer service. Once my party was seated it took 15 minutes for a waiter to bring us water and to say hello. The waiters were busy tasting food that the chef prepared. Now I understand that waiters need to know whats on the menu. When you have customers that don’t even have glasses or menus on the table, you should know whats up! In order for us to receive service we had to wave for a waiter. Oh let me not forget, we also had a time limit!  M’s Pubs Happy Hour offers select apps and cocktails. We sampled the Chicarones, Pretzel Bites, and Sliders. The Chicarones are basically pork skins with Salsa Verde and Cotlja Cheese. Delicious snack that would go perfect with a beer. The Sliders were made with lamb topped with feta cheese, sauce and tomato. Reminded me of a gyro…I love gyros. The food was good, but because of the customer service my whole experience could’ve been better. With that being said M’s Pub gets 2 Smiles.

Im soooo excited and ready to get to work!  Twisted Fork offers discounted bar food and cocktails.  I must say they don't have a grand selection of food but their cocktails is a different story.  If you like anything tropical try "Christmas in July". (Grape vodka,  blue curacao, pineapple and orange) Remind me of a bomb pop. Twisted's wings are always on point but honey the Spinach Artichoke Quesadilla was everything!!!!! Crispy and creamy you didn't need chicken!

Hiro 88 Review

Review time!! If you reside in Omaha I know you have to be familiar with Hiro 88! Hiro has 2 locations in Omaha, downtown and West Maple. The honey and I visited the West Maple location during Reverse Happy Hour (10pm-12am) When we looked at the menu we see that they add 18% Gratuity to your order. Doesn’t matter if its just you…or 8 people. Regardless they add 18% I don’t know about you guys….that didn’t make me Happy at all! My honey says that he doesn’t think they do that at the Downtown location. I’m still mad as I write this review. Overall the food was okay….not everything. I did enjoy my Pink Elephant though; I couldn’t even drink it all! I was getting a little tipsy. ;-) I give Hiro 2 smiles.
